Limited JS Daemon Analysis: Mori Ranmaru, Francisco, Pope Joan

Mori Ranmaru

Mori Ranmaru

5 ★ Melee Divina

Max/MLB Attack: 9100/10859

Max/MLB HP: 9800/11694

Ranmaru Rhythm (MAX): Deals 2881/3441 DMG to the 2 enemies with the highest ATK, decreases target’s speed by 41/49% for a limited time.

Private Secretary (lvl 56): Increases (10%) DMG dealt by Divina team members at the start of the final wave.

Historically, Mori Ranmaru was Oda Nobunaga’s page. Both perished in the Honnoji Incident.

As a daemon, he hits 2 targets for reasonable damage, and inflicts a good percentage speed reduction. While his damage is not a high as that of pure damage focused 2 target hitters like Beelzebub (3120/3720), the speed reduction is a good crowd control ability, and his damage is more than that of Asura (2397/2860, with 100% Paralysis).

Ranmaru has an ability unlocked on the first copy that increases the damage dealt by Divina team members, limited to the final stage. Other Divina team damage boosters include Ono-no-Takamura (11%, also final wave, unlocked on level 84), Joan d’Arc (5% full battle, level 60), and Amaterasu, Momotaro and Himiko (10% when used as team leaders). This ability seems quite reasonable until one considers that there are NO similar abilities that apply for Anima team, and then again when you look at the Phantasma team DMG boost options: Astaroth (25%, with 5s Silence on the Final wave), and Yatagarasu [Festival] (10%, full battle). Both Phantasma daemons have their abilities unlocked at level 80.

Mori Ranmaru is the first 2 target slow inducing 5 star daemon. His damage output is fair but not spectacular. His main utility would be boost the other Divina daemons on the team, but is hardly a unique ability. If one has other alternatives available for reserve, Ranmaru is quite easily substituted.

Emilio Rating: Meh

Petite Princess Rating: Cute

Athora Rating:  There isn’t any place for his skill set and his role in storyline was confusing.

5 ★ Ranged Phantasma

Max/MLB Attack: 12000/14319

Max/MLB HP: 9200/10978

Levitation (MAX): Deals 4358/5198 DMG to a random enemy. Target takes 33/39% more DMG for a limited time.

Miracle Child (lvl 57): Increases Crit Rate (40%) at the start of the final wave.

After Amanojaku [Valentine], any debuffer would need to be incredibly overpowered in order to have any relevance. Francisco was released with a low debuff percentage (frankly after Amanojaku, every debuffer we have ever seen has a low percentage), but with the game’s absolute highest innate crit rate. His targeting is also very sketchy, being random. This would make him reliable for use only on stages with a single enemy, like the World Boss.

MLB Effective HP

On every aspect, Francisco pales in comparison to Amanojaku [Valentine’s Day]. Even though their abilities boost them in different ways, after crit rate and damage dealt boosts have been considered, the outcome of the effective stats still have Amanojaku as the superior daemon. On a side note, because of their different innate boosts, they would benefit more from different types of buffers. Amanojaku, already with damage dealt boost would benefit most from added crit rate and crit damage. Francisco, on the other hand, would benefit from crit damage and damage dealt boosts.

Overall, if Francisco was released after Lucky Quiver (and Amanojaku [Valentine’s Day] did not exist), he would be an expensive but reasonably highly rated daemon thanks to his sky high crit rate. However, with the gargantuan presence of Amanojaku [Valentine’s Day] dominating all relevant modes of the game, Francisco ends up as an unfortunate side note and collector’s piece.

Emilio Rating: Is actually a high end daemon, but requires too much investment, have to win 50/50 summoning and with Amanojaku no damage dealer is going to be sought after unless significantly stronger than current daemon.

Athora Rating: Don’t waste invokers and mochi, too long an investment with little to no gains

Pope Joan

Pope Joan

4 ★ Ranged Phantasma

Max/MLB Attack: 7700/9441

Max/MLB HP: 5700/6988

Hunting (MAX): Deals 4415/5415 DMG to the enemy with the lowest HP.

Decaying Power (lvl 67): 20% Chance of inflicting Silence to Normal attack target.

Pope Joan was a legendary (and possibly fictional) female pope during the middle ages. That she was typed as ‘Phantasma’ is a nod to the controversial nature of her papacy.

As a daemon she brings little new to the game, being a standard single target ranged hitter. Her stats are decent for 4 stars, skill damage on the higher end. She boosts her utility with auto attacks that inflict silence, but this ability requires Lb2 to be unlocked.

The most common use for 4 star single target hitters is as PvP farming attacker. She should not have any problem winning standard PvP farming battles given her stats and skill damage, the main concern is whether her strength value would be too high to find certain defences ‘awful’.

Emilio Rating: Just another 4 star

Athora Rating: why did they add her in story? And in game, why would anyone add her to team?

  • Francisco / Amakusa Shirou led the uprising of Catholics against the Shogunate, and was executed. Looking at the dates on Wikipedia, the uprising had happened well after Oda Nobunaga’s death at Honnoji, and Japan had already been unified under the Tokugawa Shogunate.

Without thorough knowledge of the politics and history of the Sengoku period and Edo period, my speculation is the the storyline in this event is briefly: Francisco, affected by evil energy, blames the events that led to the Catholic uprising on Nobunaga, who was instrumental in the unification of Japan and eventual establishment of the Tokugawa Shogunate.

For the other characters, Ranmaru was Oda’s Page. Tenkai was a powerful buddhist monk during that era. Hosokawa Tamako was the daughter of Akechi Mitsuhide, who betrayed Nobunaga in the Honnoji Incident. Heshikiri Hasebe was Nobunaga’s favored sword.

Julius and Brutus were Roman generals. Cao Cao was the eventual victor of the Chinese 3 Kingdoms period. Pope Joan… no idea why or how she was related, other than being a random Christian character to coincide with Francisco’s Christian believes.
